Did you ever want to write a book? Or maybe record an album? Start your own business? Do something? Maybe you have done one, some, or all of those things! But I’d bet that maybe there’s that one thing that hasn’t happened yet. For me, that’s writing my first book.
I’m Tom Tate. I have venture ADD. I bounce around from new idea to new idea without seeing anything through to fruition. This surprises me, because I’m a project manager by trade. My job is help people finish things. As cliche as it is, here’s a Jack Kerouac quote that really sums up my condition:
I like too many things and get all confused and hung-up running from one falling star to another till i drop. This is the night, what it does to you. I had nothing to offer anybody except my own confusion. – Jack Kerouac, On The Road
No more running from falling star to falling star. No more confusion. I’m gonna write a book, and I’m giving myself one year to do it. You should come along with me for the ride.
What you can find on this site
As I write, I plan to document my journey on this site. I have no idea what I’m doing, so you can expect some comedy as I bumble my way through the creative process. I will consume some of the finest books written about writing and share my thoughts with you. I will use the tools of the trade and let you know what works, and what doesn’t. I will research publishing options and make it super simple for anyone to publish on their own.
I also plan to interview writers of all kind and share their advice and tips for new scribes.
I’ll do the hard work so you won’t have to.
More about me
I launched this site on my 29th birthday with the goal of releasing my first book by 30. I live with my wife and son outside of Philadelphia. We have a lot of fun together.
I’ve had a loving relationship with books for a long time. I fell for Roald Dahl and C.S. Lewis when I was a child. Things really got hot and heavy when I dusted off my dad’s copy of The Fellowship of the Ring from the attic. I got my undergraduate degree in English and History at the University of Delaware, and even earned a Master’s degree in English and Publishing at Rosemont College. With all my of schoolin’ and studyin’, I never took the time to develop a creative work of my own, and I’m not getting any younger.
When I’m not writing, or hanging with the family, I’m a project manager and agile coach at a software company. I run a couple of blogs, play and listen to music, and watch way too many television series.
Thank you for being here. Take this journey with me.
